Artists Now

Events Overview

Artists Now creates intimate encounters with artists in our schools, homes, and community that fully engage audiences in a powerful moment of artistic expression. MEET THE ARTIST SERIES events are offered to all residents of Highland Park for a nominal fee. Along with intimate settings where audience and performer are literally in the same room, time is always set aside for a ‘reception’ where audience members have an opportunity to meet and talk with the artists.

Artists Now has brought artists as varied as Philadelphia Orchestra Violinist Kim Fisher, Scottish Fiddling Champion Sarah Naylor, and Peruvian Jazz Artist Gabriel Alegria in 2007 alone. Artists Now celebrated Black History Month (February 2008) with a collaborative performance by the legendary Dr. Eddie Henderson and local talent, accomplished poet, Dr. Evie Shockley. Jazz Vocalist Angie Workman, accompanied by the Farnsworth brothers, performed during Jazz History month (April 2008). The American Repertory Ballet, NJ’s Premier Ballet Company, has opened its studios for an intimate look at how a ballet is choreographed and rehearsed and has also hosted behind the scenes tours of its stage performances for Artists Now (Fall 2006). Artists Now has held performances in venues ranging from the homes of Highland Park residents to the Highland Park Public Library, the Zimmerli Art Museum to the Highland Park Senior Youth Center.
